What is Albendazole?

Albendazole structure

Appearance and properties: white to light yellow crystalline powder, odorless
Melting point: 207-211 °C (decomposition)
Water solubility: slightly soluble in organic solvents, insoluble in water
Storage conditions: 0-6 °C

Albendazole mechanism of action

After being metabolized to sulfoxides or sulfones in the body, it inhibits the parasite's absorption of glucose, resulting in depletion of the body's glycogen, or inhibits the fumarate reductase system, hinders the production of ATP, and makes the parasite unable to survive and reproduce.

Albendazole synthesis

Sodium sulfide is dissolved in 95% ethanol, and 2-nitro-4-thiocyanatoaniline is added at 50 °C. Stir at 60 °C, cool to 40 °C, and add bromopropane at once. After reacting at 40 °C, the reaction temperature was raised to 60 °C. Add sodium sulfide and react at 80 °C. Evaporate the ethanol under reduced pressure and add water. Cool and extract with chloroform. The extract was washed with water, dried, added S-methyl-N, N-bis (methoxycarbonyl) isothiourea and glacial acetic acid, and refluxed. Distill chloroform and add methanol. Cool, filter with suction, wash with methanol, and dry to obtain crude albendazole.immunochromatography assay technology.

How Albendazole uses for?

Albendazole indication

High-efficiency and broad-spectrum anthelmintic, which is one of the benzimidazole drugs with a broad anthelmintic spectrum and the strongest insecticidal effect. It is suitable for removing roundworms, pinworms, hookworms, whipworms, treating various types of cysticercosis, and it can also be used for deworming domestic animals.

Albendazole tablets

Each tablet of this product contains 0.2 g of the main ingredient albendazole. The auxiliary materials are lactose, starch, polyvinylpyrrolidone, sodium carboxymethyl starch, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, sodium lauryl sulfate, and hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose. Used for ascariasis and pinworm disease.

Albendazole syrup

Selectively and irreversibly inhibit intestinal nematode glucose uptake, deplete endogenous glycogen, and inhibit fumarate reductase, and prevent the production of adenosine triphosphate, causing the death of the worm; it can cause the cytoplasmic microtubule Denaturation and binding to its tubulin cause blockage of intracellular transport, resulting in the accumulation of endocrine particles in the Golgi apparatus, the cytoplasm is gradually dissolved, and the worm body dies.

Albendazole dosage

Oral, anthelmintic, roundworm, pinworm, whipworm, 0.4g day service. Infants over 2 years of age with simple pinworms and simple roundworm infections, 0.2g daily service.
Treatment of cysticercosis: 15 ~ 20 mg / kg per day, taken in 2 times. 10 days is a course of treatment. 15 to 20 days after drug withdrawal, the second course of treatment can be performed. Generally 2 to 3 courses of treatment. Repeat treatment if necessary.
For other parasites, such as Streptomyces faecalis, etc., take 400 mg daily for 6 days. Repeat administration once if necessary. The dosage for children under 12 years old is halved. No fasting or bowel cleansing is required before taking the medicine. It can be taken with food after chewing, swallowing or crushing.

What's Albendazole side effect?

1. Can cause encephalitis syndrome, mostly delayed reactions.
2. A few cases have symptoms such as dry mouth, fatigue, sleepiness, dizziness, headache, nausea, and upper abdominal discomfort. But they are all mild and can be relieved without treatment.
3. A few patients may have skin lesions such as drug eruptions and exfoliative dermatitis; white blood cells (especially granulocytes) and thrombocytopenia may appear.
4. The treatment of swine cysticercosis has a large dosage and a long course of treatment. The reaction generally appears 2 to 7 days after taking the drug. There are headache, fever, rash, muscle soreness, and seizures. These symptoms are opposite to the death of cysticercosis. Protein and other factors are related, and corresponding measures must be taken (adrenocortical hormones, lowering intracranial pressure, antiepileptic therapy, etc.).
