Trimethylcaine is an amide local anesthetic. Mainly used for local anesthesia, in some preparations to reduce injection pain.
Mechanism of action of Trimecaine
Like other local anesthetics belonging in the amide group trimecaine decreases the cell membrane permeability, causes depolarization and shortens the action potential.
Anesthetic effect starts in 15 minutes and remains 60–90 minutes. Its biological half-life is ca. 90 minutes. 10% of trimecaine is excreted unchanged (90% as its metabolites). It passes through the hematoencephalic and placental barriers.
What is Trimecaine used for?
The main application of Trimecaine
It is an amide-type local anesthetic, which has a stronger anesthetic effect than procaineand lidocaine and acts faster. Infiltration anesthesia and conduction anesthesia will appear anesthesia after 1 to 1.5 minutes, the action time is longer, can be maintained for about 3 hours, and the analgesic effect around the wound can be maintained for 8-12 hours. It is used for infiltration anesthesia, conduction anesthesia and epidural anesthesia.

Usage and Dosage of Trimecaine
Infiltration anesthesia: 0,125-1% sterile saline solution, the maximum amount of 1% solution can be up to 100ml, 0.5% solution can be up to 500ml.
Nerve block drunkenness: 1-2% solution, 1% solution for 3 months to 100ml, 2% solution can be used 20ml, a small amount of epinephrine hydrochloride can be added to the solution to increase durability and reduce absorption toxicity.
What is the harm of Trimecaine?
Allergic reactions (from skin or mucous membrane symptoms to anaphylactic shock) rarely occur. In an overdose, a toxic reaction occurs: excitation, agitation, visual impairment, buzzing in the ears, tremor of muscle pleasure, drowsiness in more severe cases, decreased reflexes, respiratory defects, apnea and convulsions.
Contraindications of trimecaine
(1) Patients who are allergic to mesocaine are contraindicated. (2) Patients with hypovolemia and hypotension are contraindicated. (3) Patients with cardiac conduction diseases are prohibited. (4) Patients with malignant high fever are contraindicated.
