Trivia questions: Do you know amantadine?

About amantadine

Amantadine was the first antiviral drug used to suppress influenza viruses.

Amantadine mechanism of action

The mechanism of action for the treatment of Parkinson's disease is unclear. It may be related to amantadine promoting the release of dopamine (DA) from dopaminergic nerve endings in the striatum, strengthening the central nervous system's dopamine and catecholamines, and increasing the neuron's dopamine content.

Amantadine hydrochloride

Amantadine Hydrochloride (8-38) is a symmetrical tricyclic amine, which can inhibit the penetration of the virus into the host cell, and affect the unshelling of the virus, inhibit its reproduction, play a role in the treatment and prevention of viral infections.
It can effectively prevent and treat various influenza A virus infections in clinic. In the flu epidemic period, this product is used as a preventive drug, and the protection rate can reach 50% to 79%. For those who have already suffered from the disease, if it is administered within 48 hours, it can effectively treat the respiratory symptoms caused by influenza A virus.

Amantadine uses

Amantadine indications

It is suitable for primary Parkinson's disease, Parkinson's syndrome after encephalitis, drug-induced extrapyramidal reaction, Parkinson's syndrome after carbon monoxide poisoning and Parkinson's syndrome in elderly patients with cerebral arteriosclerosis. It can also be used to prevent or treat respiratory infections caused by Asian influenza A-II virus. When this product is used in combination with an inactivated influenza A virus vaccine, it can cause the body to produce preventive antibodies.

Amantadine Parkinson

Early treatment of Parkinson's disease is inseparable from drugs. Amantadine can partially improve the symptoms of Parkinson's disease, especially in the early stage. The effect is better, mainly for stiffness and bradykinesia, and less effective for tremor. Recent studies have also found that it has a certain effect on some advanced symptoms of Parkinson's disease, such as movement fluctuations.

Amantadine side effect

Amantadine poisoning

1. Commonly used adverse reactions are rare. A small number of patients have drowsiness, dizziness, depression, nausea, and loss of appetite after oral administration. Retinal plaques and ankle edema may appear on the skin of the limbs. Edema and reticular plaques suggest severe systemic changes. Vague language, blurred vision, involuntary nystagmus, leukocytosis, agranulocytosis, rash, etc. are rare.
2. Poisoning occurs at 4 times the oral dose, convulsions, severe mood or mental changes, severe sleep disorders and nightmares, and clinical manifestations of anticholinergic hyperactivity: dry mouth, dilated pupils, and urinary retention. Ventricular arrhythmias are rare, such as torsades de pointes.
3. After treatment or acute overdose within a few days, the patient may have high fever and tonic attack.
4. The elderly have low tolerance to amantadine, and may experience hallucinations, delirium, difficulty urinating, and syncope secondary to orthostatic hypotension.

Amantadine contraindications

(1) This product can pass through the placenta. Animal experiments have found that rats with 50mg / kg daily (12 times the amount commonly used by humans) are toxic to the embryo and can cause teratology. Pregnant women should be used with caution.
(2) This product can be excreted by breast milk, disabled for lactating women.
(3) The following conditions should be used with caution: ① those with cerebrovascular disease or history; ② have a history of recurrent eczema-like rash; ③ peripheral edema; ④ congestive heart failure; ⑤ psychosis or severe neurosis; ⑥ renal function Obstacles; ⑦ Those with a history of epilepsy can increase seizures.

Amantadine as a veterinary medicine

Amantadine for dogs

Amantadine is a drug with multiple uses and multiple mechanisms of action. It can be used for dog pain without permission, but it helps relieve pain by reducing the development of sensitivity to pain in the central nervous system (such as the brain and spinal cord).

Amantadine for poultry

Influenza and viral hepatitis of livestock and poultry have special effects on influenza A virus. It is also suitable for ferrets infected with flu. After taking the medicine, it can obviously reduce the mortality rate, but it can not reduce the infection rate, and it has the effect of anti-tremor and anti-paralysis. Combined with antibiotics, it has the function of treating sepsis and viral hepatitis, and has a fever-reducing effect.

Summary

As a veterinary drug, this product is absorbed orally quickly but not completely. It is widely distributed in animals and can enter tissues and body fluids well. Mainly excreted from urine in the form of original drugs. But it is inevitable that there will be residual drugs left in the body. This is likely to cause amantadine residues in chicken or eggs. It is necessary to detect amantadine in eggs.
The Amantadine Test For Egg kit provided by BALLYA can effectively and quickly detect whether eggs contain amantadine residues. Not only is the operation simple and the detection time is short, it allows the tester to obtain the test results in the fsirst time.
